October 5-9:
Our learning for this week:
Items to note:
-Friday is a half day
-We do not have school on October 12 due to Thanksgiving.
-The Basement is a youth drop-in space where students can hang out, play games, create music, art, do homework, etc. This is a free program.
Monday and Wednesday: Grade 5 & 6, 3-6 p.m.
Pete will meet students outside at the Bear Den courtyard between 3:02-3:15 pm. This program will be run out of Fenlands for the fall.
Learning:
Science - we will review leaf classification and then use this knowledge to identify trees using a tree key to assist us. We will also investigate unique characteristics of trees in Alberta.
Social - last week we did an anticipatory activity on the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms and this week we will begin to explore our Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms in more depth.
Writing - we will continue to work on the revising and editing process with our Stormy Weather piece and then build descriptive writing pieces based on skeletons (partial writing) from the book, Voices of the Wild.
Math - now that we have wrapped up our learning on patterns and relationships at this point in time, we will be working through Provincial Achievement Exam questions from Alberta Learning on this strand of math. Afterwards, we will begin our next unit of study focusing on the outcome of demonstrating an understanding of place value greater than 1 million and less that 1 thousandths.
Wishing you a safe and relaxing Thanksgiving.
