Our Learning:
Math - we will be starting our new unit on factors and multiples. Your child will be bringing home their chapter 3 unit test today. Please look over it with your child, initial it and then return it to the school to go in your child's portfolio. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns about the test.
Social - we will be watching our classmates craft videos on the Charter of Rights and Freedoms on Monday. On Tuesday we will be meeting virtually with grade six students across the district to learn from Justin Trudeau's press secretary, Alex Wellstead. Students have compiled questions related to our Charter of Rights and Freedoms and pillars of democracy for Alex. We are thrilled and grateful for this very unique opportunity.
Also in social, students will be presenting their craft videos this week on the Charter of Rights and Freedoms. I hope they will share their video with you as well. This was an engaging final project and I am really proud of their understanding and creativity.
We will be having our unit test on Democratic Principles on Friday.
Science - On Tuesday, The Biosphere Institute will be showing us a presentation on climate change. We will be presenting our Healthy Ecosystem project to our classmates on Tuesday as well. We will be having our unit test on Trees and Forests on Thursday.
Writing - we will be starting our first research report of grade 6 this week. Using the series, "What if you had animal ....?" Students will select an animal and then we will be researching to find facts about their animal's teeth and then use this information to model the way the book integrates these facts into what it would be like as a human. Objectives of this assignment are to learn to take notes from information, find information and then convert our notes into a summary.
