Our Learning October 12-15:

-During our social studies learning last week we created two questions that have been passed to the candidates for our municipal government election. The two questions that our class came up with were:

1. What is your opinion on people not following bylaws such as littering, taking photos in the middle of the road, approaching and feeding wildlife and refusing to wear masks in public areas? How would you deal with such issues within your role on the Town Council to help protect and support residents of Banff?

2. If there is another spike in COVID-19 within our Banff community, how would you deal with this within your role on the Town Council?

Our learning:

Math - we will be starting our new unit of study on numbers large and small with this week's focus on the outcome of learning place value for numbers greater than one million. 

Social - we will return our focus back to our Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms by working first on how to summarize information and then by summarizing the seven rights of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms in an assignment. 

Science - we will continue to work on the curricular outcome of interpreting growth patterns of a tree along with distinguishing years of growth through identifying impacts to the tree that have affected growth such as fire, drought, reduced sunlight and insect attacks. 

Writing -  we will be using our new skills on using openers and dress ups to support our first research assignment. Students will be researching the teeth of an animal of their choice and answering the question, what if you had animal teeth. Students will need to share interesting facts as well as make a human connection to having this type of teeth. This activity is inspired by the collection of Scholastic books - what if you had animal ears or what if you had animal eyes? Students have been exploring this style of book during our silent reading times last week. 

Thoughtbook - We will be working through a math riddle this week connected to our new unit on large and small numbers.  

Weekly homework - our work this week serves as a review of our learning on recording information either into a graph or a table of values along with determining the rule for the pattern.
