- we received responses for the two questions we created from the following candidates  for our municipal government election; Allan Buckingham, Chip Oliver, Stephanie Ferracuti, Corrie DiManno, Dana Humber, Jessia Arsenio, Brian Standish, Grant Canning, Kaylee Ram, Ted Christensen, Shawn Rapley, Hugh Pettigrew and Karen Thomas. 

-The Basement is a youth drop-in space where students can hang out, play games, create music, art, do homework, etc. This program is for students in Grades 5 to 8.

• Monday and Wednesday: Grade 5 & 6, 3-6 p.m.
• Tuesday and Thursday: Grade 7 & 8, 3-6 p.m.
• The Basement is located at 214 Banff Avenue.

Our learning:

Math - we will continue to work through our new chapter 3 outcomes on place value.

Literacy - we will continue to work on our What If You Had Animal Teeth assignment. Last week we accomplished our research and note taking and this week we are working on composing our sentences and artwork related to the assignment. We will also continue with our novel study, Wonder. 

Social - we will be working on making a craft video on the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. The class is excited about this style of showing their learning. I hope your child will share their finished work with you.

Science - we will be working through a town hall style of learning this week focusing on the differing perspectives on forest management. Students will be working in groups representing and planning how to use a forest based on their management area (for example, industry, recreationists). The groups will then need to attend a ¨board meeting¨ where one member of each management group will share how they would manage the forest. A consensus (a style of democracy we will learn about when we study the Iroquois Confederacy for social) will need to be made as to the best way to manage the forest and then a town hall discussion will happen where the class will vote once again on a final decision (direct democracy will be used). This is a great project that uses learning from both science and social where we can understand varying perspectives and varying uses. 

Thoughtbook - we will be working through a newspaper article on clear cutting where we will analyze varying perspectives on how a forest area should be managed.  The article we will be referencing can be found here Newspaper Article. 

Weekly homework - we will be working on finding pattern rules as a review for our weekly homework.
