Our Learning September 20-24:
Items to note:
-Our school will be having our Terry Fox run on Friday, September 24.
- As we begin to write more tests and complete more assignments, please find below a breakdown of criteria for an indicator as recorded on our report cards. You can also refer to 2019-2020 Parent Handbook: What is a Report Card? which is a document designed for parents.
Our Learning:
Science - we will be working on the learning outcome of identifying general characteristics that distinguish trees from other plants, and characteristics that distinguish deciduous and coniferous trees. We will be learning about bark, branch and leaf patterns specifically to help us distinguish between tree species.
Social - we will be participating in the Student Vote happening on Monday across Canada. This is an opportunity for students to vote on which political party they would like to see leading our federal government. We will also be learning about why we have rules in society and the differences between rights and responsibilities.
Literacy - we will be continuing our work with clausal openers and dress ups. Our reading comprehension learning will also continue with our Wonder novel study.
Thoughtbook - this week we are going to work through a reading comprehension activity focusing on visualizing. We are going to break up a passage from a released Provincial Achievement Exam into small parts and visualize what is happening in each part. Creating pictures in our mind while we read is a valuable comprehension strategy. At the end of the week we will answer the multiple choice questions that go along with the passage and see how our visualizing can help us answer the questions accurately.
Weekly Homework - our homework this week will be reviewing our skills on borrowing with subtraction.
