Our Learning Sept.13-17:

Items to note:

- Friday is a half day with school ending for students at 12 pm

- We will have our first Nature Explorers field trip on Tuesday afternoon from 1-3 pm. Please ensure that your child is dressed appropriately for the weather as we will be outside for the entire afternoon. 

- We will have our first math test on Wednesday for our patterns and relationships chapter. 

- Picture day is scheduled for September 15. 

Our Learning:

Math - we will be finishing up our chapter and then reviewing our learning prior to our test which is scheduled for Wednesday. Our test will involve finding patterns within a table of values, finding missing elements as well as finding pattern rules. Students will also be asked to display information from a table of values into a graph. 

Literacy - We will continue to work on our novel study Wonder for our reading comprehension work. For writing, we have one more opener to introduce - clausal openers such as; although, when, if and as. Following our opener learning we will be working on adding dress ups in our writing. Dress ups extend our sentences and alter our sentence structure. Examples of dress ups would be; which, who, but, because and since.  

Science - we will be learning about food webs by applying our new vocabulary on producers, consumers and decomposers along with levels of a forest. Our time during Nature Explorers will focus on the differences between plants and trees as well as distinguishing characteristics between coniferous and deciduous trees. We will also learn how we can identify tree species based on branch, bark and leaf patterns. 

Social - with one week remaining until the federal election we will be doing a candidate research assignment which we will be presenting to the class. We will also be gearing up for our student vote which will take place on Sept. 20 as well.

Thought book - we will be working through an activity I have titled: Which political party is it? Students will need to determine which political party's platform is being presented based on their knowledge of the different political parties. 

Weekly homework - students will be practicing their addition skills with our weekly homework this week.
