February 1-5:

Items to note:

- We have a Nature Explorer's field trip scheduled for Wednesday, Feb.3. Please make sure your child is dressed appropriately to be outside the entire afternoon. Lynx will be exploring orienteering with us as well as touching on our learning from our sky science unit. 

-With Valentine's quickly approaching our school has made a new policy due to our safety restrictions related to COVID-19. If your child would like to provide a valentine's card to each student in our class, please make sure to have your child bring the cards into the classroom by Feb. 5. The cards will then be kept in a safe place to quarantine and your child can hand them out on Feb.12. 

- Cards received after Feb.5 will not be handed out. 

- Please do not have your child bring any chocolate or treats to school for their friends again due to COVID-19. 

-Related to Valentine's day, please make sure that if your child wishes to hand out cards, that they make a card for each member of our classroom. 

- Friday is a half day

Our learning:

Science - We will be researching differences between our inner and outer planets. 

Social - we will be starting our final project on the Iroquois Confederacy with a focus on student's demonstrating their understanding on the following questions:

• How was the Iroquois Confederacy structured? 

• What was the role and status of women within the Iroquois Confederacy? 

• What are the advantages and disadvantages of consensus as a decision making model for government? 

• How did the Six Nations use the consensus-building process? 

• How did the Wampum Belt address collective identity?

• How did the social structure of the Iroquois Confederacy impact its political structure?

Writing - we will continue to work on our story that we started last week, emphasizing sentence structure, vocabulary choices, story content and organization. 

Math - we will continue to learn about ratios and percents with our math learning. 

Thoughtbook - we will be looking at the definition of collective identity and trying to write our own definition using a 15 word phrase, 10 word phrase, 5 word phrase and a one word challenge. This term reflects our learning in social.
