Our Learning January 25-29: 

Items to note:

-Report cards will be available for you to view on January 29. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. 

- With Valentine's quickly approaching our school has made a new policy due to our safety restrictions related to COVID-19. If your child would like to provide a valentine's card to each student in our class, please make sure to have your child bring the cards into the classroom by Feb. 5. The cards will then be kept in a safe place to quarantine and your child can hand them out on Feb.12. 

- Cards received after Feb.5 will not be handed out. 

-Related to Valentine's day, please make sure that if your child wishes to hand out cards, that they make a card for each member of our classroom. 

Our learning:

Math - we will continue to work through our new learning on ratios and percents with the overarching goal of being able to use ratios and percents to solve problems. Students are required to show their understanding of ratios and percents symbolically and by using drawings. 

Writing - we will be starting a new narrative writing piece based on a picture prompt from a previous Provincial Achievement Exam. We will work through the same process of building an organizer for our story plan and then conferencing one on one with me after each written event as each student progresses through their story. Editing and revising along with conducting a self evaluation will be the final part of this process.  

Social - we will be continuing our group research project on the six nations within the Iroquois Confederacy which will lead us to our final project of demonstrating our understanding on the structure of the Iroquois Confederacy and decision making model used. These assignments can be found in your child's google classroom. 

Science - we will begin to recognize that the other eight known planets, which revolve around the sun, have characteristics and surface conditions that are different from earth; and identify examples of those differences.  

Thought Book - we will be working on writing interesting beginnings to support our narrative writing based on a different picture prompt each day. Examples of interesting beginnings could be; using a figure of speech in our first sentence, start with a conversation, start by stating the problem, start by describing the setting or start by sharing a personality characteristic about the main character.
