Our Learning for the week of Nov.16-20:
We had a fun week last week creating with our school district's Makey Makeys and the coding program Scratch. I hope your child talked with you about this. We will be using these two learning tools to support a final project with our learning on ancient Athens in the upcoming weeks.
Items to note:
- Friday is a half day
-On Monday, students will be bringing home their math test from Thursday. Please take a look at it with your child, initial it and have your child return it to school. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns about the test and your child's learning.
-On Wednesday we will be watching the movie Bridge to Terabithia as we will be completing the novel on Tuesday. The purpose for watching the movie is to make a literary comparison of film versus novel. The movie is rated as PG. If you have any concerns about your child watching the movie please let me know and I will plan a different activity for them while our class participates in watching the movie.
Learning:
Science - we will continue our learning on evidence and investigation with again focusing on animal tracks and human footprints.
Social - we will be continuing to learn about ancient Athens specifically with the role the court played along with comparing our pillars of democracy in Canada to that in ancient Athens. Our guiding question will be, "Is ancient Athens a good example of a democracy?"
Math - we will begin our new learning on integers with the guiding question, "How can integers be used to represent real-life contexts?"
Writing - we will be focusing on making a literary comparison between the novel versus film version of Bridge to Terabithia.
Thought book - we will be discussing and debating the value of mandatory voting in ancient Athens along with in a modern day democracy such as Australia.
