Items to note:
-We have a Nature Explorers field trip scheduled for Tuesday afternoon. Please ensure that your child arrives at school with the appropriate clothing to stay warm during this 2 hour outside field trip. Toque, mittens, warm socks, warm jacket and snow pants.
-If you have a shoe box at your house please save it for an upcoming science project for your child.
-Some students have started to bring their toy cars to school. Unfortunately, students can not bring toys from home to school due to our safety guidelines that we need to follow. If you have any questions about this please let me know.
Our Learning:
Science - this week we will be learning about the physical evidence of fingerprints. In our grade 6 curriculum, students learn about the three main types of fingerprints - loop, whorl and arch. Students will have the opportunity to examine their own fingerprints and categorize them accordingly.
Social - students will be working on their final project for ancient Athens where they will be taking a stand on whether Athenian democracy is a good example of democracy as it relates to our pillars of democracy - equity, justice, freedom and representation. They will be using their knowledge and skills with our school district's Makey Makeys to create an interactive poster.
Math - we will be continuing to explore integers within real life contexts.
Writing - we will be starting a new area of focus on Wordless books. Within this area of learning we will be working on story organization, vocabulary, sentence structure and voice.
Thoughtbook - we will be working on sentence structure this week, writing examples of simple, compound, complex and compound complex sentences which will connect with our writing learning this week and into the future.
