Our learning April 12-16:

Items to note:

- thank you for taking the time to look at your child's letter of advocacy. I apologize to those families whose child's letter didn't go home on the Friday before spring break as the printer setting copied some back to back. Your child's mark on this assignment along with others can be found in their google classroom which you have access to. Please don't hesitate to let me know if you have any questions or concerns about your child's mark on this or any of their assignments. 

- for our art time on Friday we are going to learn about and try to make micrography portraits. Students will need to bring in to class on Friday, a picture of themselves. It does not need to be a current picture but a picture in which your child feels proud of themself in. We will be using the picture to make a self portrait and then add in words about ourselves. This learning will also connect to our work on removing stereotypes. The photograph can either be printed or it can be in digital format. Students will be asked to come up with a list of words about themselves to add to the portrait. Example questions you could ask your child to help brainstorm their thinking about themselves for this assignment could be; how do you identify yourself? What are some characteristics about you? What are activities you love to do? What makes you happy? What inspires you? What do you strive to do?

Our learning:

Science - we will be continuing to explore properties of air through experiments. 

Social - we will be starting our new learning on the role of the provincial government with a focus this week on how it works and why we need a provincial government. 

Writing - we will be starting new learning on crafting newspaper articles. We will start by investigating what information is featured in the lead sentence as well as the body of the article. 

Math - we will continue to learn about angles, triangles and polygons with a focus this week on classifying angles within polygons. 

Thoughtbook - we will be comparing visual representations of democratic pillars and judging the better and best with supportive reasoning.
