 Our learning November 22-26:

Items to note:
-in preparation for an upcoming science project, where students will be making a crime scene, we are in need of shoe boxes. If you have any shoe boxes you are not using please send them to school with your child. We will happily use them! Thank you.
- we will be going on our next Nature Explorers field trip on Tuesday, November 23 for the full afternoon. Please make sure your child is dressed appropriately for the weather.
-please remember to check your child's google classroom so you can see feedback on their learning through assignments. Not all families have accepted the invite sent in September to join their child´s google classroom as a guardian. Please make sure you have joined our classroom so you can see your child's learning progress.

Our learning:
Math - we will be starting our new math chapter on fractions with a focus this week on ordering mixed numbers.

Science - we will be continuing our learning on Evidence and Investigation with a focus on differentiating between tire tracks and classifying soil samples.

Literacy - we will be finishing part 2 of our novel study and starting a new writing unit focusing on wordless books. Wordless books provide us an inquisitive opportunity to understand story organization as well as developing our own writing for the illustrations using grade level sentence structure and vocabulary. An emphasis throughout this learning unit will be on showing what is happening versus telling. For example, the sentence, ¨the child ran across the street¨ tells the reader what is happening but the sentence, ¨with arms pumping and her neck tilted downwards she ran across the street¨ shows the reader what is happening.

Social - we will be reviewing our learning on Ancient Athens´ democracy and using our learning for our final project where we will create interactive posters through coding using Scratch and Makey Makeys. Students will need to imagine they are from Sparta, a neighboring city state, sent to evaluate Athens' structure of government and determine if their form of democracy should be used in Sparta.

Thought book - we will be working on defining the word democracy with declining word use starting by using a 15 word phrase then, 10 word phrase and ending our week with one word to define democracy.

Weekly math - we will be working on adding and subtracting decimals.
