Our Learning March 22-26:

Items to note:

- a concern has been raised in regards to gender inequity in the play activities our class has been participating in during our recess times. Unfortunately, some students in our class are being mistreated related to their gender and are the receivers of hurtful comments and stereotypes. I have put together a learning activity for us around gender stereotyping related to sports along with general gender stereotyping. I have also broadened our learning to investigating other stereotypes. For example, racial/cultural, personal and professional. It would be greatly appreciated if at home you could talk with either your son or daughter around the importance of inclusion and kind words. An example question you could use to lead your discussion with your child could be; How can we support all genders when playing sports at recess time or at any other times? What responsibility do I have in making sport a safe and supportive environment for all genders?  What are some limiting factors that affect development in sport?  A fabulous website I will be referencing on this topic can be found here:

This discussion and learning activity fits within both our social and health curriculum. I appreciate in advance your support and openness to these conversations with your child at home. 

-students are encouraged to wear purple on Friday, March 26 in support of those who suffer from epilepsy. 

Our learning:

Writing - this week we will continue our learning on understanding the differing perspectives on the area structure plan for the Three Sisters Development while working towards our letter of advocacy for whichever perspective students support. 

Math - we will continue to work on our chapter 9 learning with a focus on classifying angles and triangles. 

Social - we will be wrapping up our learning on municipal government with a focus on how our democratic principles of justice, freedoms, equity and representation are present in municipal government. 

Science - we will continue to explore the three properties of air through experiments and discussions. 

Thought book - we will be working through an angle scavenger hunt where students will need to search for objects that have certain angle criteria.
