 Our Learning March 8-12:

Items to note:
- In support of our social studies learning on municipal government, we will be attending the Town Council meeting at 2 pm on March 8. Our class is looking forward to experiencing this procedure. We have been told that Mayor Sorensen will be acknowledging our presence in the meeting which we are excited about.

- On Tuesday, Mayor Sorensen will be meeting with us virtually. We are hoping to learn about her role as Mayor as well as the role of Municipal Government in our lives specifically here in Banff.  We are hoping to learn from Mayor Sorensen about how municipal governments make laws, how it is organized and how young people can become active participants in the government. We are also hoping to learn about the unique political and geographic setting of being located in a national park, with information about the Mayor's collaboration with the federal government.  Additionally, we are hoping to learn about her collaboration with the provincial government, for example, related to COVID-19.

- On Friday, one of our students is going to share their expertise on how to use stop motion to demonstrate their learning. I am hoping that families will be comfortable sending their child to school with a device (tablet, phone, ipad) that we will be using for educational purposes. Our plan is to first practice using stop motion with the end goal for re-creating one of the scenes from our current narrative writing piece into a stop motion video. The intention for this learning is to give students another avenue to demonstrate their learning. If you are comfortable with your child bringing to school a device for next Friday, the following FREE app is required: Stop motion Studio. I understand that different families will have different parameters around installing apps on to a family device therefore if your child could already have this app installed that would be wonderful. Please do not worry if your child does not have a device to bring to school as we have several ipads at school that we can use. Please don't hesitate to let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

-Our parent teacher conferences are scheduled for March 17,18 and 19. You will have the choice of a 15 minute telephone meeting or Google Meet virtual meeting. Appointments must be booked online at https://banff.schoolappointments.com (not Parent Portal). If you choose a virtual meeting, a link will be emailed to you by March 16, 2021. If you choose a telephone meeting, you will be called at the telephone number you provided when you created your account. Please click here for instructions. In addition to booking a conference with your child’s homeroom teacher, conferences can be booked with our French teacher, Ms Keon and our Music teacher, Ms. Emro.
