Our Learning March 7-11:

Items to note:

-on Tuesday we will be having a student guest speaker teach us how to make stop motion videos for an upcoming social assignment. If possible, students are asked to bring in a device (phone or tablet) that they can use at school for this learning session along with downloading the free app, ¨Stop Motion Studio.¨  School devices will also be available for those students needing one. 

-we will be going on a Nature Explorers field trip during the afternoon of Thursday, March 10. The topic will be around democracy and Canadian history and will be located at the Internment Camp Memorial Site at the Cave and Basin.

-our next round of parent teacher conferences will be held on March 16,17 and 18. Parents will have the option of booking an in person conference, an online conference or a phone call conference. You should have received an email from the school on Friday, March 4 with booking information using banff.schoolappointments.com. I look forward to meeting with you and celebrating your child's successes. 

Our learning:

Science - our next unit of learning for science is on air and aerodynamics. This week we will be working through a variety of experiments to help us understand the three main properties of air. Air takes up space, air exerts pressure and air has weight. 

Math - we will be reviewing our learning on angles, triangles and polygons and designing either a golf course or town using our knowledge on angles, triangles and polygons. 

Social - we will be working on a presentation showing our understanding on the different responsibilities with our three levels of government in Canada. 

Literacy - we will be working through a writing activity where we will be acting as markers for the exemplars made available by Alberta Education in preparation for our writing provincial achievement test. The goal of this work is to understand how we will be marked for our writing assessment as well as studying examples of writing determined to be at each level. (Exemplary, proficient, progressing, not yet). Following this activity we will be using our knowledge from this activity along with teacher feedback from our stories so far and will then begin writing another narrative story.

Thoughtbook - we will be working through a levels of government and corresponding responsibilities activity. 

Weekly homework - we will be working on an angle measurement using a protractor review sheet.
